The souks of Marrakech
Are you planning to go to the Souks? See our information below!
Information:
In Marrakech you can shop like nowhere else. Especially in the big souks in the Medina, these are filled with colorful things. The Souks can be found in the old center of the city and are small streets full of markets and shops. Here you can find cheap traditional products such as spices, soap and art, but also souvenirs and modern products.
You can walk into the souks from the Jemaa el Fna square, and then get lost for hours in the small streets. The souks are colorful, busy and the atmosphere is typically Moroccan! Firm negotiation is necessary because you can often pay ‘half of half’. Don’t buy from the first shop you come across, but compare the prices carefully.
Opening hours:
The souks themselves have no opening hours, but the shops and stalls are of course not open 24 hours a day.

Tips and Tricks!
Here are a few tips worth knowing before you visit the Souks!
- When you walk through the overcrowded Souks, young people may tell you that the road you are entering is closed. ‘That road is closed’ they shout. They hope you stop and ask which way to go so they can show you the way and then ask for money for this. It’s best to ignore them entirely!
- You can literally get lost in the souks. I recommend downloading an app like maps.me to find your way around!
