In Marrakech you can shop like nowhere else. Especially in the big souks in the Medina, these are filled with colorful things. The Souks can be found in the old center of the city and are small streets full of markets and shops. Here you can find cheap traditional products such as spices, soap and art, but also souvenirs and modern products.

You can walk into the souks from the Jemaa el Fna square, and then get lost for hours in the small streets. The souks are colorful, busy and the atmosphere is typically Moroccan! Firm negotiation is necessary because you can often pay ‘half of half’.  Don’t buy from the first shop you come across, but compare the prices carefully.

Information:

The Ben Youssef Madrasa is an Islamic madrasa in Marrakech and was once the largest and most important in North Africa. There was room for almost 1000 students. The Ben Youssef Madrasa was founded in the 14th century and closed for good in 1962. Today, the Madrasa is open to tourists and people who want to visit this beautiful building.

Especially the architecture and the colorful mosaics are a feast for the eyes. Admire the beautiful Moroccan architecture, especially the remarkable inner terrace, which is centered around a swimming pool. There are marble pillars decorated with pinecone and palm motifs and the walls are decorated with Islamic calligraphy and mosaics.
