🇧🇪 Het Steen – Antwerp, Belgium

Het Steen is one of Antwerp’s most iconic historic landmarks and one of the few remaining parts of the city’s medieval fortress. Located directly along the Scheldt River, this impressive stone castle is now also a tourist information centre and a great starting point for exploring Antwerp.

Inside, you can discover The Antwerp Story, an interactive experience showcasing the city’s history, culture and identity. The castle also features a panoramic rooftop terrace with beautiful views over the Scheldt and Antwerp.

📍Getting There?

Het Steen is located right on the Scheldt, at the edge of Antwerp’s historic city centre. From the Grote Markt (Main Square), it is only a few minutes’ walk.

• Walking: Easily reached from the Grote Markt, Groenplaats and the historic centre.
• Tram: Get off at Groenplaats and walk towards the river.
• Train: From Antwerp Central Station, continue by tram or walk towards the historic centre.
• By bike: The Scheldt quays are well connected to Antwerp’s cycling network.
• By car: Several parking garages are available around the city centre, but exploring the historic centre on foot is recommended.

💶 Price:  

Access to Het Steen itself is free. The visitor centre, rooftop terrace and some exhibitions can also be visited free of charge.

The Antwerp Story requires a ticket, with discounts and free admission available for certain visitors, including holders of a Museumpass or Antwerp City Pass.

Het Steen is closed on 25 December and 1 January.
