The lake is surrounded by historic landmarks, cafés and the vibrant Old Quarter. One of its most famous sights is Turtle Tower, while the iconic red Húc Bridge leads to Ngoc Son Temple, located on a small island in the lake.

Hoan Kiem Lake is located in the heart of Hanoi and is very easy to reach.
– From the Old Quarter: If you are staying in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, walking is the easiest option. Depending on where you are staying, the lake is usually just 5–15 minutes away on foot.
– By Grab or taxi: Coming from another part of Hanoi? A Grab car or motorbike is a convenient option. Ask your driver to drop you off near Đinh Tiên Hoàng Street or the northern side of the lake.
– By bus: Several public buses serve central Hanoi. However, for most visitors, walking or using Grab is generally the easiest way to reach the lake.
– Walking area on weekends: On weekends, several streets around Hoan Kiem Lake become pedestrian-only. The official walking area generally runs from Friday evening until Sunday midnight, making the area particularly enjoyable to explore on foot.

– Try Vietnamese coffee: The streets around Hoan Kiem Lake are packed with cafés. This is a great place to try traditional Vietnamese coffee, especially egg coffee (cà phê trứng).
– Walk the entire lake: A complete walk around the lake is roughly 1.7–1.8 km, making it an easy and enjoyable stroll. Allow around 30–60 minutes if you want time for photos and stops.
– Be careful with traffic: Hanoi is famous for its enormous number of motorbikes. When crossing roads, stay calm and walk at a steady pace rather than suddenly stopping or running back.

– Turtle Tower (In the middle of the lake): Turtle Tower, or Tháp Rùa, is one of the most recognisable symbols of Hoan Kiem Lake. The tower sits on a small island in the water and can be admired from several viewpoints around the lake. You cannot normally enter the tower, but it is an excellent photo spot.
