A visit is an escape from the dizzying hustle and bustle of the city. Life literally goes by half in this place. It can be very touristy at times, a fun and alternative way to explore the area is to stay there for a night and explore one of the small islands by bike.

Ben Thanh Market, located in District 1, is one of the most famous and popular markets in Ho Chi Minh city. The market is popular with tourists and locals alike, you can easily spend hours there. During the day, you can wander through the covered market. Walk through the paths consisting of stalls selling food, souvenirs, clothes and where everything Vietnam-related is for sale. Prices are quite high here, though, so don’t be afraid to haggle.

In the evenings, the streets next to the covered market are transformed into a market where you can try the tastiest local dishes, among other things.

Visiting the market is one of the best things to do in Ho Chi Minh City.

Probably the most modern building in Ho Chi Minh city is the Bitexco Financial Tower. The Bitexco Financial Tower was until recently the tallest building in Vietnam, with a height of 262.5 metres. Located right in the middle of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City’s business and entertainment district. Designed by renowned US architect Carlos Zapata, this 68-storey tower has offices, shops, restaurants and a helicopter pad.

The main reason to visit Bitexco Financial Tower is the Saigon Skydeck on the 49th floor. Here you will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful panoramas of the city and the nearby Saigon River.

The design inspiration for the Bitexco Financial Tower comes from Vietnam’s national flower, the lotus. The lotus is a symbol of optimism and devotion.

The famous Notre Dame Cathedral or Saigon, built between 1863 and 1880 by French settlers, is one of Ho Chi Minh City’s architectural wonders. Apart from being one of Ho Chi Minh City’s most important attractions, the Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral still serves as a religious institution for locals. The 2 towers, 58 metres high, tower high above the streetscape.

Saigon was also called the Paris of the East at the time, but unfortunately many of the old French buildings were lost in the war. The cathedral does not compare to the one in Paris, although it is just as impressive. Other remnants of the French period include the adjacent post office and the town hall: both a beautiful example of colonial architecture.
