Big Buddha, Phuket
Planning to visit the Big Buddha? See our information below!
Information:
The absolute attraction on Phuket is the colossal white Buddha. The imposing statue is made entirely of marble, and at 45 metres tall is the third largest statue in all of Thailand. Construction of this magnificent Buddha began back in 2004, yet it is still under scaffolding. It is unknown when the Buddha will be fully completed and the scaffolding will go away. ย
However, it is not just the Buddha that makes the mountain worth visiting. Via about 100 steps, you reach the top and are rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the entire island of Phuket and the other islands off the coast. On the way back, don’t forget to stop for a drink or snack at one of the viewpoint restaurants found along the way.
The Big Buddha is very important to locals. Therefore, behave and dress respectfully towards the locals. Do not climb the statue and wear appropriate clothing and therefore no bikini, swimsuit, tank top and flip-flops. Wear long clothes or bring a sarong!
After visiting the Big Buddha, still time to spare ? You can easily combine the Big Buddha and the Chalong temple. They are about 8 kilometres apart.
Opening hours:
The Big Buddha is free and can be visited every day of the year from 06:00 AM to 06:30 PM.
