So a very fun and very cheap way to travel from A to B in Bangkok is by boat taxi on the Chao Phraya River. There are several embarkation points all along the river. You buy a boat ticket at one of the counters before boarding the boat.
Boarding and leaving is at a furious pace and the boat stops at different stops every 5 minutes. Taking the cruise is a fun way to get around and enjoy everything you encounter along the way.
The main sights in Bangkok can be reached by boat: Wat Arun, Wat Pho and the Grand Palace. By boat, you can easily combine them all in one day.
