Information:
The Christ Church Melaka, is one of the most recognizable landmarks of this breathtaking Malaysian city. The church stands on Dutch Square, the center of Dutch power during their rule in the city.
Christ Church Melaka is Malaysia’s oldest functioning Protestant church. While the construction began in 1741, it was not completed until 1753. Before it was built, the Dutch living in the town used the old church at the top of St. Paul’s Hill.
Like most buildings on Dutch Square, Christ Church was built to Dutch standards. It has high, massive walls and columns, a rectangular plan, Dutch roof tiles and granite plinths, all of which would be hallmarks of 18th-century Dutch colonial architecture. The floors are covered with granite blocks and the walls are made of Dutch bricks.
