Information:

Just outside the city walls of the medina is Essaouira’s port. Essaouira was once Morocco’s most important port, being at the terminus of caravans from Timbuktu. There are some large boats in the port, but mostly many small blue boats that are iconic for Essaouira. It is fun to walk through the port and watch the fishermen take apart their nets. Some are sold directly in the port, while the rest go to the fish market in the medina.

You can’t leave Essaouira without visiting the port!

Opening hours:

Essaouira port is open every hour every day, but come at the end of the day, when there is the most to see and do here.

Here are some tips you should know before visiting Essaouira port!

  • Come to the port around three in the afternoon and watch the fish being brought in and auctioned.
